The Three Elements of Character Animation

Get the best start possible for learning 3D character animation.

I’m really excited to let you know that I’ve launched a new course called Into Motion: Character Animation Foundations and I’m making the entire course available for free!

The course is available through the Into Animation website and I’ll also be releasing the videos on YouTube.

So what’s the course about?

I believe that all good character animation is a combination of three key elements, Foundations, Mechanics, and Performance.

Each of these builds upon the last and, if any of them are not working well, the animation suffers.

Therefore, getting the foundations right is absolutely critical.

What are the Foundations?

Learning the foundations of character animation involves gaining a solid knowledge of the 12 Principles of Animation, as well as understanding how to create believable and appealing motion.

Believable motion is based upon analysing what happens in the real world, whilst appeal comes from the artistic choices that we make.

All of this can be practiced with simple objects, and basic characters, to keep the complexity as low as possible.

Why make the course free?

I feel that many beginners jump ahead past the foundations to get onto more exciting animation but, in doing so, they severely limit their abilities.

Since the foundations are less attractive, I wanted to make a course which was both fun and freely available, so there really are no excuses for not practicing them.

Get started today!

The course has ten parts in total which will be released weekly throughout the Summer, and you get started with the first lessons now!
