Using the Principles of Animation

Discover how the 12 Principles of Animation can be combined to create high quality animation.

The 12 Principles of Animation are usually one of the first things that new animators learn about, and a thorough understanding of the principles is essential for the creation of high quality animation.

The problem is, the principles are usually demonstrated with simple examples, in isolation.

This approach can be effective for understanding the core concepts, but it’s not always helpful when it comes to understanding how to put the principles into practice.

Principles in Practice

To help solve this problem, I’ve created a new YouTube video in which I both explain the 12 Principles of Animation and demonstrate their use within the context of a more complex piece of character animation.

New things on the horizon

Animating the penguin for this video was a lot of fun! Whilst I created this piece of animation to demonstrate the Principles of Animation, it was also an opportunity to properly test the rig for this new character.

I have much bigger plans for this little penguin, and you’ll be seeing more of him soon. I’ll be sharing further details in future newsletters so, if you're not subscribed, consider signing up using the form below.

For now, I hope that you enjoy this latest YouTube video.
